A lot of my freelance projects are for a small suite of icons, not a hundred or a thousand (yes that's happened) but maybe 10 or 8.
Below are some of the more interesting projects I've had recently. A number of things can make a project especially appealing. Sometimes it can just be that I've never created an icon that goes inside a car for instance. Othertimes it can be that I like the palette or had fun drawing a little salmon steak on a plate with baby peas...
Blurb.
These icons were developed for both a website and the software that you can download from the site... Blurb is this really great place to design and create a book. Super high quality options, totally professional results. Photo books, artwork books, cookbooks, mystery novels. Anything. Awesome, go visit!

*Another social mapping app:
So you are free and want to grab a drink or a movie with a friend, you use this *app and it shows your picture on a map so your friends can see you are nearby and available for a drinky. Yeah... Well, here are some icons that I created that appear next to your name, so your friends can now 'see' that you are available for a movie or drinks or dinner.
Please, pick up the phone and call your friends and say, want to go to the movies tonight? it's not that hard.
OTHERWISE, fun working on these different style directions ;) They ultimately went with a flat glyph of a single object.

Oracle:
This was a HUGE project. There was a team of icon designers and we created something like 30,000 icons. No kidding. What was fun was the process. A lot of process actually but you get into a groove. You make a glyph, a simple silhouette. You make it in white, in dark grey and then in a transparent grey. Afterwards you take that glyph and place it into a button chiclette ie: square. From there you go crazy and make a fully rendered, stylized but realistic icon of that glyph.
Here are some of the ones I made that out of context of the software, still make some sense.

Paypal:
The Marketing Deptartment at PayPal commissioned a large suite of icons from me to match a pre-exhisting suite. Most of the icons are for banking or payments but they wanted to make them as playful or friendly as possible for such a serious context as money being sent or received.
